Bob Ashley, a NRA Life Member, (HE PAID HIS LIFE MEMBER DUES THE MONTH HE DIED) was diagnosed with cancer in September and passed away in February of this year. Bob loved competing in Service Rifle Championships, High Power Matches, and the Long Range Matches. Professionally, Bob was a Structural Engineer and owner of an Architectural and Structural Engineering Firm. Bob served 15 years in active and reserve duty for the Marines Corps. Bob was a veteran of Desert Storm and it is felt by many that his illness was associated with that campaign.
Bob loved all shooting, but really loved the F.C.S.A. 1000 yard .50 BMG shoots. (Bob was instrumental in the development of our .50 BMG "ASHLEY" BULLET). Bob competed in the 1995 F.C.S.A. Nationals and placed 4th overall his first try at this sport. In honor of Bob’s contribution to the 50 Caliber Shooter’s Association, a perpetual, memorial trophy will be on display at the NRA Whittington Center. A memorial plaque will be given and names added to the trophy each year, starting this year, to the Junior with the High Aggregate Score in the Heavy Gun Class.
Even though shooting was his love, Bob’s true love was his family, they always came first. He is survived by his loving wife, beautiful son and daughter, and a very special family.
We lost a good friend and fellow competitor. As we fire our rounds downrange, say farewell to our friend, Bob.
Remember Our KIA’S, MIA’S, POW’S, and those who took that Silent Bullet of war, for Our Freedom, as Bob did."
